To My Surprise (originally The ORNGE) was an American alternative rock band formed in 2002 in Des Moines, Iowa. They are referred to as a side project of Shawn Crahan, a member/founder of metal band Slipknot.

History[]

In 2003 they released their debut album To My Surprise, however after losing frontman Brandon Darner in 2004 they parted ways with their record label. 2005 saw four new members join the band to begin work on a second album and in 2006 they began performing shows in the US. Trivia[]

  • The band started out as a duo, with Shawn and Brandon, in 2000, and they recorded 2 demos for The World's Too Small and Sunday. Which were completely different versions than the ones on the album, Brandon played guitar too fast and Shawn was "all over the place" on drums.
  • The band recorded the entire debut album under the name "The ORNGE", after they finished recording they found out there already was a band called "Orange", so they couldn't use that name. They also didn't want to re-record the parts in some of the songs where Shawn says "the ornge", because it would of been a pain to re-do it, so they just left it as it was.
  • Shawn wanted the band to be like Gorillaz, which is why the music video for "In The Mood" was animated.
