"This next song is about a girl in a box. This song is called Purity"

-Corey before singing this song live

"Purity" is a track that was written for Slipknot's self-titled album. It appeared as track nine on the album. The track was removed from the album and replaced with "Me Inside" due to the lawsuit. The band still continued to perform the song live. The rare studio version also appears on "Disasterpieces" in Audio form under the Music Videos section.

The song is set to be added back onto the album when Slipknot: 10th Anniversary Edition (a re-release of Slipknot's first album) is released on September 9, 2009

the song purity was re-released on Slipknot: 10th Anniversary Edition

The prelude to Purity, entitled "Frail Limb Nursery", has remained unreleased ever since being removed from the album.

This song is somewhat of a re-recording of the song Despise. After reading about the controversial story, some of the lyrics in Despise were changed to match the story's idea. Others, like in the verses, remained the same. Despise was later re-titled "Purity" to match Purity Knight's name. This was the last song recorded for the album, and the seventh song (not counting 742617000027 and Frail Limb Nursery) until the album's re-release, in which Purity and Frail Limb Nursery didn't appear.

Song Details

The song was written about a story that Corey Taylor read on a website. According to the story, a girl named Adrianne Purity Knight was kidnapped and buried alive. Corey thought that the story was true, but the author claimed that Adrianne was fictional, and objected to the use of the story in the song. Following the lawsuit, the album was re-released with the b-side track "Me Inside" (originally on the Digipak) replacing "Purity".

Corey Taylor's Explaination

"I still think it's real. See the thing whether it's true or not, it's a real story, that we read about, that fucked our whole world up. Can you imagine a girl being buried in a box and having all this lecherous bullshit drip down on her from this guy? And thinking that there is hope, because this kid is taking some bizarre note to this guy he doesn't even know- thinking that you are holding on to the shirt of hope and you wake up, and you're dead you're buried in mud -they find the note about a week later shoved in a library book for gods sakes -it just hurts your head- it's a case of what is good and bad in people- the box alone is reason enough to be like, 'I can't stand to be fucking human'- how can someone fucking do this to somebody? What is inside of us that is so fucking wrong? He had written quotes from Edgar Allen Poe and lots of fucked up things on the box" - Corey Taylor

Lyrics

Maze, psychopathic daze
I create this waste
Back away from tangents
On the verge of drastic ways
Can't escape this place
I deny your face
Sweat gets in my eyes
I think I'm slowly dying
Put me in a homemade cellar
Put me in a hole for shelter
Someone hear me please
All I see is hate
I can hardly breathe
And I can hardly take it
Hands on my face, overbearing I can't get out!
Hands on my face, overbearing I can't...

Lost, run at my own cost
Fearing laughter, scoffed
Running from the rush
Detached from such and such
Bleak all around me
Weak, listening, incomplete
I am not a dog
But I'm the one you're dogging
I am in a buried kennel
I have never felt so final
Someone find me please
Losing all reserve
I'm fucking gone
I think I'm fucking dying
Hands on my face, overbearing I can't get out!
Hands on my face, overbearing I can't...

You all stare, but you'll never see
Something inside me!
You all stare, but you'll never see
Something inside me!
You all stare, but you'll never see
Something inside me!
You all stare, but you'll never see
There's something in you I despise!

Cut me, show me, enter
I am willing and able and never any danger to myself
Knowledge of my pain
Knowledge of my pain
Or was my tolerance a phase?
Empathy, out of my way
I can't die!
I can't die!
I can't die!
I can't die!

You all stare, but you'll never see
Something inside me!
You all stare, but you'll never see
Something inside me!
You all stare, but you'll never see
Something inside me!
You all stare, but you'll never see
There's something in you I despise!
